Privacy Policy
What the app collects, where it goes, and what you can do about it.
Water Reminder is a personal hydration tracker for iOS and Android, built by Habuild Healthtech Private Limited (“Habuild”, “we”, “us”). This policy describes what data the app itself collects, processes, or shares. It sits alongside our corporate privacy policy, which covers Habuild’s broader website and services.
The short version
- Your profile and water logs are stored on your device. No sync. No cloud account.
- Product analytics — profile fields and app events — are sent to Mixpanel (EU region). No email, no phone number, no precise location.
- If you allow location, we make one request to OpenWeatherMap per goal recalculation to factor weather into your hydration goal.
- Uninstalling the app wipes all on-device data. Mixpanel deletion is available on request.
What’s stored on your device
The following is persisted locally using MMKV and never transmitted by us:
- Display name, weight, age, gender, activity level, climate preference, wake-up and sleep times, daily hydration goal.
- Your daily water-log history (rolling 30 days).
- Streak counts and goal-celebration state.
- App preferences — reminders on/off, Health-integration grants.
Uninstalling the app permanently removes this data.
What Mixpanel receives
We use Mixpanel (Mixpanel, Inc., EU data residency) for product analytics — to understand usage patterns and improve the app. The following profile fields are attached to your Mixpanel user record:
- Display name (as entered in Settings)
- Weight (kg), age (years), gender
- Activity level, climate preference
- Wake-up and sleep times
- Daily hydration goal (ml)
- Install date
- Platform (iOS / Android), app version, build number
Product events are sent alongside — hydration logs, goal-met events, screen views, app open/close, notification delivery/tap counts, onboarding steps, health-permission prompts, profile edits. These events carry the profile fields above as super-properties for segmentation.
What we never send to Mixpanel
- Email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, payment data.
- Precise GPS coordinates.
- Contents of reminder notifications.
- Apple Health / Health Connect raw data — only a derived active-minute count used to calculate the goal bump.
Mixpanel’s own privacy policy: mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Weather — OpenWeatherMap
Your smart daily goal accounts for local weather. Each time the goal recalculates (morning or on-demand), your device sends one request to OpenWeatherMap containing your approximate latitude and longitude. OpenWeatherMap receives only the coordinates — no name, no device identifier, no usage history.
We do not retain your location history.
OpenWeatherMap’s privacy policy: openweather.co.uk/privacy-policy.
Optional: Apple Health / Android Health Connect
If you grant permission, Water Reminder reads active minutes from Apple Health (iOS) or Health Connect (Android) to fine-tune your daily goal. The raw health data never leaves your device. Only a derived adjustment (for example, “+350 ml from today’s activity”) is sent to Mixpanel as part of goal-recalculation events.
You can revoke access at any time via iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Water Reminder, or (on Android) Settings → Apps → Water Reminder → Permissions.
Notifications
Hydration reminders are scheduled and delivered locally by your device’s notification system. The reminder text shows your current progress (e.g. “1.2 L of 2.8 L today”) — this content never leaves your device.
Anonymized delivery and tap counts are sent to Mixpanel, tagged with the scheduled hour, your current consumption, and your current goal. No notification body text is transmitted.
Your rights
- Access — the app’s Settings screen surfaces every personal field we hold.
- Correction — edit any profile field in Settings; changes sync to Mixpanel automatically.
- Deletion — uninstalling the app wipes local data permanently. To also delete your Mixpanel profile, email the address below. Requests are actioned within 30 days under GDPR, CCPA, and India’s DPDP Act 2023.
- Portability — on-device data is not sync’d today, so there is nothing to export. If this changes, we will update this policy and note it in release notes.
- Analytics opt-out — a Settings toggle is planned for a future release. Until it ships, uninstalling opts you out.
Children’s privacy
Water Reminder is not directed to children under 13. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, users under 18 are treated as children and require verifiable consent from a parent or lawful guardian before their data is processed. We do not knowingly collect data from users in either category. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at the email below and we will delete it promptly.
Jurisdiction & compliance
Habuild is headquartered in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. This policy is governed by the laws of the Republic of India. It complies with the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and California, we also honour rights granted by the GDPR and CCPA. Disputes will be handled as described in our corporate privacy policy.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we add or change features. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. If a change materially affects what data is collected or shared, we will call it out in the release notes for the version that introduces it.
